Batucaxe drum and dance

Dance

Rosangela Silvestre returns to Tucson! Dance Workshops April 18 - 25.

The drum is the heartbeat of Batucaxé, and dance is the blood in our veins. From the electricity of samba to the rolling waves of samba reggae, Afro-Brazilian dance engages the body and exhilarates the spirit.

Batucaxé holds weekly dance classes with live drumming, for all levels of experience and fitness. Our classes offer a supportive, encouraging environment, with plenty of assistance to help dancers grow in their movement and in appreciation of the music.

Batucaxé's Community Group is a great way to take the dance a step further. These dancers meet regularly to perfect choreography that they present in performances several times per year.

Dance is also an integral part of our Performance Group. These dancers learn the essentials of Afro-Brazilian movement in our classes and Community Group before committing to a more rigorous schedule of rehearsals and performances. You'll find our performers at most classes, helping new members while honing their own skills.

We also sponsor master classes throughout the year. Most recently we have had the privilege to present classes with world-renouned dancer/choreographer Rosangela Silvestre, Gustavo Galdas from the Balé Folclórico da Bahia, Gabriella Masala from Rhythm of Life and Anton Smith from The Human Project.
